RegSweep Review
Review of RegSweep
2008 Edition by – RegSweep.com
Rating:
3.4/5 stars Price: $29.95
When we attempted to learn about the developer and maker of RegSweep,
we ran into a road block. There seems to be little, if any, information
about the software's developer, who owns the rights to it or how to get
into contact with them. In order to receive any information about
installation problems, you have to send an email to
support@regsweep.com?subject =UnregisteredInquiry. In order to receive
information relating to the the operation of the product (Help files
and such) you need to be a registered user. Among registry repair tool
makers, we found this lack of openness on the part of the promoting
website a bit off putting, to say the least.
The above having been said, the RegSweep
program itself is an adequate registry cleaner for individual or
commercial use. The graphics user interface (GUI) is similar to two
other products being reviewed here. Both RegClean and ErrorSmart have
similar GUIs to RegSweep. As well, these programs seem to scan for the
same errors, although they show differing, albeit similar, results.
RegSweep
will find the crucial errors on your system and it will do so rather
quickly. It does live up to its claim of finding errors in two minutes
or less. It took approximately 1:12 minutes (72 seconds) to complete a
scan on our test system. It will find all the following errors: repair
DLL files, Windows Startup errors, Internet Explorer errors, runtime
errors; prevents PC from freezing or crashing; restore correct file
& registry paths; broken DLLs, OCX, and ActiveX components;
fixes corrupt files; and stabilize scripting errors. And it will
display these errors so that the user may choose which to fix, isolate,
and/or delete and which to leave alone.
One of RegSweep's
main drawbacks in terms of how it compares with its competion is the
fact that it contains little more than just the basics of registry
repair capabilities. It does, however, include a Startup Manager
feature so that the user can optimize and manage their PC's boot
procedure. It also includes a Backup feature which comes standard on
most reputable registry repair tool products. But other than this,
RegSweep is a bare bones program. If you are seeking a registry cleaner
that contains extra features for the same money you would do better to
look elsewhere.
The one area that RegSweep
excels in is in ease of use. It's rather simple user interface is
easily understood. There aren't a lot of options to choose from, so it
makes sense that it would be easy to understand.
In terms of its customer support, we were unable to locate a phone
number (as is mentioned on other registry review sites) to use for
contact and technical questions. Although their website FAQ does
mention that they provide 24/7 support. Since we did not purchase the
program, we cannot say whether the online Help Area is any more useful
to the registered user than it is to the unregistered user.
If you are in the market for a bare bones registry cleaner that does an
adequate job of cleaning and repairing your Windows registry, you could
probably do a lot better price wise with either of two other products
mentioned here than with RegSweep.
Although it does the necessary job of finding and isolating all the
critical invalid and unused files in the registry, we just cannot see
spending the extra money and not receiving extra value for
it.
